In December 2021, Rails 7.0 made its debut, unveiling a refreshed homepage and a revamped boot screen. However, while these updates brought a contemporary touch, one aspect remained notably unchanged: the design of the guides, a facet that didn't escape notice (we've been listening to your feedback).
Given the ongoing efforts to streamline the Rails framework, ensuring its documentation is consistent, clear, and current, it became imperative to address the guide's design, aligning it with modern sensibilities of simplicity and freshness.
Collaborating with UX designer John Athayde, we aimed to mirror the homepage's aesthetics onto the Rails Guide, rendering it sleek, clean, and contemporary.
While maintaining the existing layout, today marks the introduction of several enhancements to the Edge Guides:
- A cleaner, less cluttered design.
- Fonts, color palette, and logo harmonized with the homepage for greater cohesion.
- Updated iconography for a more contemporary look.
- Streamlined navigation for enhanced user experience.
- A persistent 'Chapter' navbar for convenient navigation while scrolling.
